Pada hari Selasa (25/7), euro mengalami tekanan dan mencapai level terendah dua minggu. Penurunan tersebut disebabkan oleh memburuknya aktivitas bisnis di zona euro, yang memperkeruh prospek suku bunga yang diterapkan oleh Bank Sentral Eropa (ECB), yang masih menunjukkan sikap hawkish (cenderung untuk menaikkan suku bunga). Di sisi lain, dolar AS menguat menjelang pertemuan bank sentral utama minggu ini.
Mata uang yuan China mengalami penguatan di sesi perdagangan Asia. Penguatan ini disebabkan oleh komentar dari para pemimpin puncak China pada hari Senin yang berjanji untuk meningkatkan dukungan kebijakan ekonomi menghadapi perlambatan ekonomi negara tersebut.
Nilai euro goyah di $1,1063, mengalami kenaikan tipis sebesar 0,02% setelah sebelumnya turun ke level terendah dua minggu yaitu $1,1059 di awal sesi. Penurunan tersebut dipicu oleh hasil survei pada hari Senin yang menunjukkan aktivitas bisnis di zona euro menyusut lebih dari perkiraan pada bulan Juli, yang memunculkan kekhawatiran tentang kemungkinan resesi.
Pasar telah sepenuhnya menilai kemungkinan kenaikan suku bunga sebesar 25 basis poin oleh ECB pada pertemuan mereka minggu ini, tetapi proyeksi kenaikan suku bunga di masa depan setelah bulan Juli masih tetap tidak pasti.
Sementara itu, nilai tukar poundsterling (sterling) turun sebesar 0,11% menjadi $1,2811, sementara indeks dolar AS tetap stabil di angka 101,39.
Survei Flash PMI serupa di Inggris juga menunjukkan pertumbuhan sektor swasta Inggris pada laju terlemah dalam enam bulan pada bulan Juli, sementara survei terpisah menunjukkan aktivitas bisnis di AS melambat ke level terendah dalam lima bulan pada bulan ini.
Federal Reserve juga akan mengadakan pertemuan minggu ini dan diperkirakan akan memberlakukan kenaikan suku bunga sebesar 25 basis poin. Mayoritas ekonom yang disurvei oleh Reuters memperkirakan ini akan menjadi kenaikan terakhir dalam siklus pengetatan kebijakan bank sentral saat ini.
Nilai yen Jepang tetap di bawah tekanan di level 141,43 per dolar, kesulitan untuk pulih dari kerugian besar yang dialami pada hari Jumat karena laporan Reuters menyatakan bahwa Bank of Japan (BoJ) cenderung untuk mempertahankan kebijakan kontrol hasil tetap tidak berubah dalam pertemuan kebijakan mereka minggu ini.
Sementara itu, nilai tukar yuan China menguat hampir 0,5% menjadi 7,1540 per dolar. Penguatan ini didorong oleh komentar dari para pemimpin puncak China dalam pertemuan Politbiro yang menunjukkan lebih banyak dukungan untuk mengatasi perlambatan ekonomi. Meskipun begitu, banyak investor masih mencari informasi lebih lanjut tentang langkah-langkah stimulus yang lebih besar.
Dolar Australia, yang sering digunakan sebagai proksi likuid untuk yuan China, mengalami kenaikan sebesar 0,18% menjadi $0,67515, sementara dolar Selandia Baru (kiwi) naik 0,06% menjadi $0,6209.
